Nowadays Titalia is a reliable partner: big multinationals and firms belonging to every field rely on Titalia when they have to employ this material, often in adverse environmental conditions.
Titanium welding in a hyperbaric, inert atmosphere, in a dedicated welding chamber, is the only technology capable of producing joints whose mechanical properties exceed those of the base metal.
The procedure, which initially conditions all elements in a vacuum, first removes oxygen and hydrogen traces from components and the chamber’s interior, which would contaminate the welds. Then, an pressurized inert welding atmosphere is created in the chamber, and this promotes further purification of the welding area, as impurities diffuse away from the molten titanium. The weld may at this stage be widened to more than double (8-10 mm) of what is normally achievable with welding torches not inside a welding chamber (3-4 mm). The resulting joints, besides superior material properties, exhibit a fillet geomtery with greater impact and fatigue strength.
Micrographic inspection confirms how gradually the material structure flows from one welded element to the other, a clear index of the superior fatigue strength.
AFTER TWO YEARS OF INTENSE WORK AND RESEARCH NEVI HAS INVESTED A TRULY INNOVATIVE 6AL-4V TITANIUM FORK
THANKS TO ENGINEER FRANCO CIMATTI AND SERGIO FINAZZI NEVI BUILT THE BEST FORK IN THE WORLD
Titanium is almost expired among the materials used during the races, but in Italy, there are some teams who keep apprising it. Team ControlTech Nevi, for instance, decided to use it profusely, but it’s not all about the light materials. Its athletes, in fact, showed great skills during Italian XC championship, obtaining great results, such as the victory of Gioele Bertolini among the Junior riders and Andrea Tiberi, who arrived second among the elites.
The bike Nevi used by Bertolini was showed in Marzocchi stand, and we gave a closer look to it. It has a titanium frame, customized on Nevi’s specifications, featuring many interesting details, such a steering angle of 70 degrees, and a weight of only 9 kilos. Moreover, it’s equipped with a Marzocchi 29” fork.
